Day 1

Arrival at your transit point (Raipur/Jabalpur) and transfer to the hotel where you can enjoy the wilderness at leisure. A short orientation to the Kanha National Park will be provided. In the evening, we head for our first safari to the national park. Our skippers will be on hand to assist you with any queries as regards photography & natural history. We get together for dinner and retire for the night.

Day 2

We rise just before dawn to get ready for our first morning safari in the park. A short session with tea and light snacks, where our skippers will help you with any last-minute preparations before we depart for the safari, carrying along a packed breakfast. Return to the hotel post safari for lunch and some rest. We shall then depart for the evening safari. On our return to the hotel, we share our experiences of watching some of the amazing wildlife we would have witnessed over high tea. We have an opportunity. Our skippers would once again be on hand to assist with any queries. We get together once again during dinner and retire for the night.

Day 3

Same as Day 2.

Day 4

Remembering the fond memories created, and once you’re all packed and ready, arrange for your transfer back to the transit point (Raipur/Jabalpur) till our next wild wandering.

On any of the days, there is an option to undertake a night safari/jungle walk based on the group’s interest at an additional cost. Cost will be subject to number of interested members and does not have to be pre-booked, and can be arranged during the tour itself.

Kanha, a name borne of adoration for the Hindu God, Lord Krishna. But ask any nature enthusiast or wilderness explorer in India, and they too might feel the same way, but for a place as well. A place where stately sal trees command a towering presence, and the golden grasslands provide grand vistas.

Spotted deer and peacocks call the many meadows of this park home, along with a species that made its last stand here, but now is back on the road to recovery, the magnificent hard-ground barasingha found only here, along with a small population that was translocated to the neighbouring Satpura national park. You will also likely come across large sambar deer, jackals, wild boar, perhaps even the shy Indian muntjac (barking deer). With a little bit of luck, we may also spot the gaur (Asia’s largest bovine), a foraging sloth bear on the lookout for its next meal, a shy jungle cat, the whistling russet-brown hunters that are dholes/wild dogs, even the elusive leopard.

However, we know that one animal’s presence here towers over all others, the striped enigma nearly everyone who visits wishes to see, the tiger. Capturing the imagination of many a visitor, the tigers here are even known by name, Sonam, Umarpani, Link 7, Chhoti Mada and of course, the ageing but still active Munna, the stripes forming a tattoo of ‘CAT’ on his forehead. However, tiger sightings are always a matter of luck, and though we will do our best to track one should we be lucky to come across signs, it would be best not to pin the success of our expedition on a tiger sighting, as often just chasing to get a sighting of the animal might not result any, and we would have missed out on many of the wilderness’s treasures, some even more rarely seen than the tiger.

The birdlife at Kanha is stunning, and equipped with the binoculars we provide, we are sure you are going to have an amazing time discovering the winged inhabitants of the reserve. Nearly 300 species have been recorded within the environs of the reserve, a mix of both, year-long residents and migratory ones. You may encounter the melodious white-rumped shama, the strange-looking yellow-wattled lapwing, even birds of prey such as the crested serpent eagle, changeable hawk eagle, white-eyed buzzard. Kanha also forms a bastion for four species of vulture, many of which are critically endangered now. We may also come across summer migrants such as the gorgeous Indian pitta (known as the ‘Navrang’ in Hindi literally translating to ‘Nine Colors’) and the Indian cuckoo, maybe hear the lilting call of the latter that almost sounds like ‘One more bottle’! Together with exploring many of the park’s smaller lifeforms, including butterflies, spiders, snakes, turtles and many others, it would be exploration that would only end when we wish it to.

  1. Wilderness Exploration: This expedition is not recommended if the intention of your travel is to purely kick back and relax. While relaxing in the lap of nature will be part of the experience, the majority of our day will spent exploring the wilderness. Sighting wildlife can never be predicted, however the more time you spend exploring the wilderness, the better the chances are you will be witness to amazing natural spectacles.
  1. The Best of Guidance: Our accompanying skippers include some of the most well-renowned naturalists of India, having accomplished a level of expertise in their domains where they now inspire others to follow in their footsteps. With their in-depth knowledge of the wilderness and its denizens, we are sure as they reveal the hidden treasures of the wild, you will experience nature like never before.
  1. Personalized Experience: With a maximum group size of five  during this expedition, we wish to provide a customized and intimate nature interpretation experience. In addition, we provide complimentary roof prism binoculars on our expedition to enhance your viewing experience when we encounter the wonders of the wild.

  1. Memories: We will be documenting the expedition on video, capturing not only those amazing moments of rare and endangered wildlife we see, but also of you watching them, together with all other fun-filled memories. We will be providing a short highlight movie (ranging from 3-5 minutes) within 2 weeks of return from the expedition to reminisce with your family & friends at leisure.
  1. A Responsible Outlook: It will be our effort to minimize the impact of our time spent in the wilderness on the natural environment by making responsible and sustainable choices wherever possible and try to leave the wilderness as it was, if not in a better condition.

What do I need to be pack for?

We advise winter clothing for this time of year though you can carry a jacket, woolens, muffler as well, as days will be cool and evenings and night will be crisp cold. We also suggest avoiding bright colored clothing especially if you plan to explore on foot. You may also carry a dust mask if you are allergic. Please also carry along a first aid kit and prescription medication.

Do you provide guidance for photography?

While photography is not the primary focus of our expedition, we recognize that rarely anyone travels to the wilderness without a camera in one form or the other. We will do our best to provide you opportunities for photography as well, however please keep in mind the focus remains experiential so if you are travelling to photograph a particular subject, this may not be the trip for you.

How many people will be with me in a safari jeep?

To provide comfortable seating during the safari, you would be in the company of two or three guests and your expedition skipper which ensures a comfortable seating of four in the safari jeep. The jeep driver and mandatory forest guide would be seated in front in separate seats.
